Frank Vernon Browning was born in 1882. He joined the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott) as Petty Officer onboard the expedition ship Terra Nova . As a member of the shore party he served with the Northern Party (led by Victor Campbell), spending the first year at Cape Adare and the second year exploring and sledging along the Victoria Land coast.
